The defendant was arrested after eight children and a grown-up fell ill at Stathern Lodge in July.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
Yet, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old child.
Ruben was held in detention ahead of a additional proceeding on late November.
'Sweet game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, detailed the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She said his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a youth camp which he ran.
Ruben engaged in a "treat game" with the children, the legal counsel explained, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She told the court Ruben had engaged in this activity with the children "repeatedly", and minors had previously become sick the following morning.
She explained Ruben had been capable of justifying this for many years as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had suspicions in recently.
The prosecutor added: "In the summer" his family member had concerns about the situation, for good reason.
"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."
Mrs Prior KC said materials including lubricant, ointment and injection devices were discovered, and his stepson contacted the police about his suspicions.
She said the defendant went on to play the "candy game" with six boys that evening - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"Authorities" had not gone out by that point," she stated further.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the situation.
The legal representative stated the youngsters were struggling to walk due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson called the authorities once more.
She said Ruben then engaged in the "candy game" in a room of five youngsters.
